I love North Dakota. A lot.
It's definitely my favorite state, and not just because I have a ton of relatives there.
To start with, I love the restaurants. I love The Woodhouse, which has "frenchies." For all you curious Washingtonians, a frenchie is a deep-fried, grilled cheese sandwich. The cheese melts in your mouth, along with the bread. It's absolutely delicious. In addition, the Woodhouse has the BEST onion rings you will ever taste in your entire life. They're perfectly deep-fried in a house batter that is simply AMAZING.
I love Taco Johns, which is the equivalent of a Taco Time, here on the west coast. It's odd, because we have more Mexicans here, but nobody does Mexican like Taco Johns.
Finally, I love A&B Pizza. It's like Chuckie Cheese's, except with totally scrumptious thin-crust pizza. The flavor is awesome!
Unfortunately, since I have no pictures of food (I ate it too quickly), I shall present you with other photography, demonstrating most of the other reasons I adore North Dakota and its populace.

On the way to my mom's farm, we passed many hay bales. I just had to take a picture of this one, with the hawk relaxing on top.
Can you tell they've had lots of rain this year? Look at how vibrantly green it is! |
Old, ramshackle building in the middle of a field. I wish I could have stopped for portraits, but alas, there was no time. :( |
This is Britain. Yes, like the country. |
He was enjoying himself, swinging back and forth on the barn gate. |
He thought he'd stay out of my line of fire, but he was mistaken! |
Almost slipped, but clung on tightly! |
This is the farm cat... I think his name is Tom. |
Tom is not nearly as scary as he looks here. |
As you can see, he enjoys his naps, and didn't appreciate my interruption. |
This is Blackie, the family pet. She was really scared of my family, but that didn't stop me from photographing her. |
Tom thought he'd keep a close eye on the dog. |
This is the house's "trophy room." Like hunting? You'll LOVE this room! |
He's hunted everywhere-- even out of the country! |
Which do you prefer? The carriage (pulled in a parade), or the mounted elk? |
It's hard to believe, but he has a full size muskox (that he shot and killed!) stuffed in their room! |
This is the antique wall. Same room, but the wife's side. |
I also love visiting Medora. This year was no exception-- the Medora Musical was amazing, as was the trail ride I went on, and the drive we took through the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Before the trail ride, all the horses waited patiently for their riders. |
My horse is the farthest to the right, in this shot. |
This was the trail guide's mare. She did wonderfully on the trail, always obeying her rider. |
This guy was happy for me to come talk to him. :) |
From the stirrups up! |
Can you identify the part of the saddle? |
These guys were waiting to be taken out. |
The other thing I love about North Dakota. Prairie dogs. |
Oh yeah... these cute, little rodents run around everywhere. |
They're wild, but you wouldn't know that from watching them! I was only a few feet away for this picture! |
Aren't they adorable? |
I imagine these two had a lively conversation. What do you think they're saying? |
Wild horses! |
I loved them, and wanted to wait for the overo paint to get closer, but Mom and Grandma were impatient. |
This guy was the lookout for his buddies. |
And this girl was absolutely beautiful! I love the badlands in the background, too. |
